WOW! Moments in the Gardens

As we head into summer, we continue to recover from the pandemic, Hurricane Laura and the historic winter freeze. Over the past few weeks, as plants arrived, there has been a flurry of activity to layout new plants and get them planted throughout the gardens. Jennifer Buckner, Director of Horticulture, and her team have been instrumental in working to develop and refine new planting areas that will create even more exciting WOW! moments for our visitors. In the area pictured, Jennifer is working on the siting of Shrimp Plants that will bloom throughout the summer in deep shade. In addition, this landscape has been recently planted with several native shrubs that will fill the landscape with spring flowers that are highly attractive to butterflies and other pollinators. Many of these plants were collected from seed by Executive Director, Rick Lewandowski, and grown at the Production Greenhouse.
