The state-of-the-art Heronry Blind at Shangri La allows visitors an up-close look at the birds nesting on Shangri La’s Ruby Lake. From this vantage point, visitors can observe the approximately 15-acre lake that serves as a temporary home to more than 17 species of birds that migrate here annually. Each year nearly 5,000 birds can be found on Ruby Lake.

From the comfort of this hidden vantage point on the edge of Ruby Lake, visitors can observe a wealth of wildlife including Great Egrets, Roseate Spoonbills, Anhingas, Cormorants, Wood Ducks and more. The occasional alligator may even be seen sunning on the deck in the middle of Ruby Lake.

The Heronry Blind is a favorite destination for many visitors from March through May. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own binoculars.
