Commissioned by the Stark Foundation, sculptor, Linda Covit drew inspiration from forms found in nature (spiral, branching, circle, and stripe). The installations are designed to engage visitors in both the gardens and sculpture, offering a unique experience of space and place. A drawing of a plant detail, cut out of stainless steel, references the plants within each site. Benches and screens complete the work.
About the Artist
Linda Covit was born in Montreal, Canada where she lives and works. Her outdoor site-responsive installations are often concerned with nature and the environment. Commissions in addition to Shangri La include works in Shandong Province, China, Calgary Water Centre, Montreal, Quebec, Beauport, Quebec and Anchorage, Alaska just to mention a few. Ms. Covit has held numerous solo exhibitions worldwide including: Tokyo, Japan, Lachine, Quebec, Montreal, Québec, Toronto, Ontario and London, Ontario, as well as galleries in a variety of other cities. In addition, she has participated in group exhibitions in Nigata prefecture, Japan, Faenza, Italy, and New York, New York. Ms. Covit’s works can be found in the collections of the Musée d‘Art Contemporain Montréal, the Musée du Québec, the Cirque du Soleil, the Musée de Lachine, the Koffler Gallery, and the University of Concordia.
