Join us for family-friendly educational programs on select Saturdays during September through November! These programs run from 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. (unless otherwise noted) and are FREE! With a wide range of topics, there is something for everyone.

Some of nature’s most fascinating organisms are also its strangest! Join us at Shangri La Gardens as we explore unusual plants and animals that have adapted to survive in extreme environments. From carnivorous plants to other remarkable species, participants will discover how these unique living things meet the challenges of their habitats. Families will enjoy hands-on activities and up-close exploration.

Splash on into the world of water! In this hands-on program, families will discover what makes a fish a fish and learn about some of the other fascinating animals that share their watery habitats. Through games, activities and exploration, participants will investigate the unique adaptations that help aquatic creatures survive both above and below the water's surface.

Join us for a journey into the incredible world of monarch butterflies! Families will learn about one of nature’s most amazing migrations and discover why milkweed is essential to monarch survival. Through hands-on activities, exploration and creative fun, participants will gain a deeper appreciation for these beautiful pollinators and learn simple ways they can help support monarchs in their own communities.

Who’s making all that noise? From chirping crickets and croaking frogs to hooting owls and singing birds, nature is full of sounds waiting to be discovered. Join us as we explore how animals communicate, learn why different sounds are important and head out on a nature sound hunt.

Join us for a batty adventure inspired by the beloved story Stellaluna! Families will enjoy the tale of a brave little bat while learning about the amazing adaptations that help bats navigate the night sky. Through hands-on activities, crafts and fascinating facts, participants will discover why these often-misunderstood mammals are such an important part of our ecosystem.

Crawl on over to Shangri La Gardens and discover the fascinating creatures that thrive in damp and shady places! From insects to other tiny critters, we'll explore the special adaptations that help these animals survive and succeed in their habitats. Families will enjoy hands-on activities and a chance to create their very own creepy crawly to take home.

Flip, click and crawl your way into the wonderful world of beetles! Inspired by Eric Carle’s The Very Clumsy Click Beetle, this program introduces families to one of the most diverse groups of animals on Earth. Participants will enjoy a story, learn about beetle adaptations, move like beetles and even meet some of our resident insect ambassadors. Join us for a fun-filled exploration of these remarkable creatures.

Celebrate the arrival of fall with a playful pumpkin-themed adventure at Shangri La Gardens! Families will learn how pumpkins grow from tiny seeds into colorful autumn favorites while enjoying a story and hands-on activities. We'll finish the fun with a simple craft to take home as we welcome cooler weather and the changing season.
